About the Family
Tiny Secrets Nature Retreat began in 2017 with little more than a beautiful stretch of untouched land and a lot of creativity. Kito and Karen began slowly carving out the property, learning to work with its natural topography through permaculture, and imagining a place where travellers could slow down, connect, and feel a little more at home in nature.
Kito’s background in engineering, combined with his bold and passionate love of the arts, shaped the vision for a place that felt both unique and welcoming. Over nearly a decade, the property has grown through an enormous amount of love, sweat, and tears. Every corner carries a piece of the people who have helped bring it to life.
Over the years, volunteers from around the world came to share their time, skills, and creativity. Many left behind little pieces of themselves that we still encounter every day: the outdoor pizza oven built by Max from Germany, hidden pathways and art pieces created by Noelle, and countless other details woven into the landscape by many others. In this way, Tiny Secrets has always been a collaborative creation, shaped not only by our family, but by everyone who has passed through it. We’re deeply grateful to each person who has been part of its story.
Today, Tiny Secrets is entirely family-run by Kito and Fiona, his daughter and Director of Retreat Operations. We’re a Brazilian-Canadian family who love to laugh, dance, cook good food, make things with our hands, and have as many people over as we can possibly squeeze into the house.
While the property has grown and changed over the years, our intention remains much the same as it was in the beginning: to create a place where people can pause from the messiness of everyday life, take in the spectacle of nature, reconnect with the people they love, make new connections, and perhaps learn something from the land along the way.

How do I locate Tiny Secrets Nature Retreat?
Our property is located 2.3km along Stephens Way, in Halfmoon Bay, BC. While we have beautiful and intuitive directional signage on the property, we also provide listing-specific instructions on the booking platform itself. Those detailed instructions become available to you 48 hours before your booking.
Network service: For the most part, yes! It depends on your cellphone network provider, and it varies in some areas. If the signal is ever too weak, simply walk around - especially closer to our family home - and you'll find stronger spots. As this is common across the Coast, we recommend downloading your map routes before you start your travels that day.
Wi-fi: All of our lodging accommodations have wi-fi, excluding our Glamping Tent. The campground does not have wi-fi or electrictity.

Yes! The Sunshine Coast is home to a myriad of creatures. We encourage our guests to read up on wildlife safety before their arrival. While staying here, you may encounter elk, racoons, bears, coyotes, etc.
Can we explore your property?
Yes, we encourage it! There is a lot to see - from our orchard, to the walking trails, and the communal picnic areas. We just ask that you respect other guests accommodation areas, and do not pass the signs of each site.
Can I bring my dog?
For most listings, you can! Simply add how many dogs you are bringing when you're booking in. If there is a limit to how many you can add, or no option at all, it's for a reason. Near our home, we don't allow dogs, for the comfort of our family dog, Lyka.
Pets in dog-friendly listings are required to be on-leash and supervised at all times. We do not allow cats, unfortunately.
Can I have a fire?
While we all love campfires, they can be a big risk to our ecosystem at some parts of the year. We follow local regulations, and sometimes will enforce fire bans beyond that as well. Please contact us to ask us about the current fire ban status before or during your stay. In some cases, you may want to bring your own propane powered fire pit, or rent one of ours.
During campfire season, you can bring your own firewood, or purchase it here.
